MENTAL HEALTH CARE IN SOUTH DELHI

Looking for a psychiatrist in Delhi?

Most people who reach this page have been managing something for a long time — months of poor sleep, a low mood that will not lift, panic that arrives without warning, a parent whose memory is slipping, or a family member drinking more than they admit. Deciding to see a psychiatrist is usually the hardest step. The consultation itself is ordinary and practical.

Dr. Syed Danish Ahmed is a psychiatrist, neuropsychiatrist, geriatric psychiatrist and addiction psychiatrist practising in Delhi for over thirteen years. He completed his MBBS at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, and his DPM in psychiatry at the Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi. He is Senior Consultant in Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, and consults privately at Comfort Corner Clinic in Greater Kailash II.

The clinic treats the full range of psychiatric conditions in adults and adolescents — anxiety and panic, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, schizophrenia and psychosis, insomnia, ADHD, autism, personality and eating disorders, sexual health concerns, dementia and delirium, and alcohol, tobacco and substance dependence.

When is it time to see a psychiatrist?

There is no threshold of suffering you must cross first. If any of the following has lasted more than two weeks and is affecting work, study, sleep or relationships, an assessment is worth booking.

Sleep has changed

Difficulty falling asleep, waking at 3 am, or sleeping far more than usual for several weeks.

Mood will not lift

Persistent sadness, irritability or emptiness, often with loss of interest in things you used to enjoy.

Anxiety is physical

Racing heart, breathlessness, tightness in the chest or repeated visits to physicians with no cause found.

Work and study slip

Concentration, memory and decision-making become effortful; deadlines and attendance start to suffer.

Substance use grows

Alcohol, tobacco, cannabis or prescription medicines being used more often, or to cope.

Family notices first

Withdrawal, unusual suspicion, forgetfulness in an elderly parent, or a young person’s behaviour changing sharply.

Confidential. Your first call is with the clinic desk, not a call centre.

No. You can call the clinic directly and book a consultation. If you have been seen elsewhere, bring your earlier prescriptions and reports.

Not necessarily. Some conditions are managed with therapy, sleep and lifestyle work alone. Where medication helps, the reasoning and side effects are explained before you decide.

Yes. Consultations are confidential. Information is shared with family or an employer only with your consent, except where there is risk to life.

Video consultations are available on request and suit follow-ups, reviews and second opinions. A first assessment is usually better in person.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose, prescribe medication and treat the physical aspects of mental illness. A psychologist provides psychotherapy and testing.

It depends on the condition. Sleep and anxiety often improve within weeks; mood disorders take longer. A realistic timeline is given at the first visit.

Most are not. A small group, mainly sleep and anxiety medicines, can cause dependence if used long term, which is why they are prescribed for defined periods and tapered.

Yes. Geriatric psychiatry is a core area of the practice — dementia, delirium, late-life depression and behavioural changes, with guidance for home care.
